My Plan to Get The Best Of Sickness

I am sort of notorious for over-extending myself. I have been doing it ever since I was a little girl, and the end result is always the same.

Illness.

I always get sick whenever I try to take on too much. And since I am currently planning two weddings, working two jobs, starting a new business, and writing two blogs, It stands to reason that I would get sick.

But since I am also looking forward to Comic-Con on Friday, I am seriously not thrilled about this newest onset of sickness.

I made a giant batch of crock pot chicken, onion, garlic and veggie soup last night. When I woke up this morning, all I had to do was throw it in some Tupperware and head out out the door for work.

I brought about 7 bags of hot tea with me, along with my mug and few packets of Vitamins. I just got home from work, threw on my jammies and am now crawling up onto the couch to watch a marathon of tivo-ed House Hunters International. Oh, and heating up more soup.

Sickness will not beat me!

How do you beat off sickness when you have to get well in a hurry?

A Busy Tuesday

In stark contrast to yesterday’s lazy day, today I have a full list of things to do.

My morning started at 7:30. I climbed out of bed, got dressed, fed the cats and ran out the door. I had an appointment at Firestone at 8:00 am to get some work done on my car.

The gentleman at the shop told me it would be a while, so I walked up Highland to Hollywood Blvd and hit the gym.

I tried two new classes. I started with a class called Step plus Abs. It was a light impact step aerobics class with a big emphasis on ab work and core strengthening.

I enjoyed the class, and loved the instructors energy, but I have a feeling that I’m going to be fairly sore tomorrow. After that I checked out my first ever Yoga class. It was very peaceful, though I am not limber enough to do most of the stretches for long. Hopefully, that will come with time.

I knew the car would still be hours, so I headed home to start cleaning.

This was not your normal, run of the mill, cleaning. This was more like a spring cleaning.

I cleaned out closets, and busted out the tough chemicals and I am not even half way done. :( Though the bathroom looks pretty.

This is gonna be a project to get through the whole apartment.

But I am re-organizing and getting rid of stuff to make the place perfect for the wedding. :) I wanna come home (married) to a gorgeous, well organized home. I don’t know why. My friend Kelly suggested that it’s because it is a grown up thing to do, and being married feels grown up.

My car wasn’t ready until almost six. I jogged down to Firestone to pick up the car, since I didn’t do any cardio this morning at the gym.

After getting the car, and sitting through 20 minutes of traffic to go 2 miles (Hollywood blvd at rush hour is gross) I finally made it to the grocery store (Fresh and Easy is my favorite).

We had a coupon to save 10 bucks when we spent 50 and the fridge was seriously empty since we had just been out of town.

I spent 63 (which was 53 after the coupon) a was able to get enough food to last a couple weeks. I stocked up on veggies, chicken, salmon burgers, fruit, granola bars, and yogurt. Not too bad if I say so myself.

I whipped up dinner when I got home. Some sauteed chicken breast, brown rice and black beans. I snacked on it, but Mark and I are going out for a friends birthday tonight, so dinner is gonna have to hang out in the fridge until we get back.

Time for a much needed shower, and then I gotta go pick up Mark and head to the bash.

Goodnight!

A Lazy Monday

This was my view for the first part of today.

Ah, relaxation.

For me, it has all been go go go, since Mark and I came home from our Pennsylvania vacation last week. I immediately jumped back into work, and trying to finish planning the Las Vegas Wedding next month so there hasn’t even been a moment to just relax and unwind.

So, last night we went over to our friends house to celebrate their return from Hawaii and their marriage (they tied the knot on the island). We had lava flows and beer and just enjoyed the good company before Mark and I passed out on the couch.

This morning I was up early to get my Smog Check on my car. Our friend Chrissie (who we were staying with) recommended a great spot near her house last night, so I knew I better do my grown up stuff before I got to relax. My car registration was due today, and to avoid a late fee, I had to take care of everything pronto.

The guys at Dabit Smog were very nice. We called ahead and they informed me that no appointment was necessary. As soon as I drove up they got started with my car and they were very quick. I was in and out in about 20 minutes, extremely relieved that I passed (this was my car’s first smog check, and I had been a bit concerned). The price seemed fair, and even the paperwork and payment process was very easy. They sent my passing score over to the DMV electronically, so when I got home I would be able to pay my renewal registration on-line and not have to spend half of my Monday in the DMV. I would recommend this spot to anyone.

When I returned to the house, the five of us had breakfast take out fromĀ Lulu’s in Van Nuys and then I went and laid out by the pool for a while in the hammock, and then on a towel, and then on the pool raft while floating around the gorgeous water.

It really was the perfect day for it.

After the sun, I was dead tired so I took an hour long nap on the couch while Mark read up on Dungeons and Dragons (we are trying to get an online game going so we can play with our friends from PA).

We headed home around 3:30 to beat the afternoon traffic and after a quick run to the grocery store we were back on our couches watching the latest, “True Blood.”

We still need to unpack from our trip, but I did wash the dishes. Now it is time for some more laziness on my part. I have a LOT of House Hunters International to catch up on.

Happy Monday!

Happy Anniversary, Los Angeles

Six years ago today, I hopped on an airplane with my mother and father in the wee hours of the east coast morning, and boarded a plane to Los Angeles, CA.

It was two years before I went back to Florida (for a visit).

Yes, that’s right. I have lived in LA for six years today.

I am not sure how I feel about that anymore, especially now that I plan to leave LA next year. But I am proud of what I did here.

If nothing else, I took a massive leap of faith when I moved across the country to start a life in a state where I did not know a soul.

And this adventure set the bar for all the new adventures I hope to have traveling the world with Mark.

So happy anniversary to me. How cute was my 22 year old self?

Happy Birthday, Mom!

So, though I failed to mention it earlier, today is not JUST father’s day…but it is also my wonderful Mommy’s birthday!

She is an amazing Mom, but she is also one of my best friends. And I am so excited that I will get to see her in just a few days to plan my wedding.

Happy Birthday, Mom! I hope it was perfect!

I didn’t want to post about Father’s Day and my Mom’s birthday in the same post, though. I wanted to make it special.

Of course, I got so swamped at work today that I never got a chance to upload the blog on my break. :(

Though I didn’t get to spend this awesome day with either of my parents, I did hear that they had a great time together. They had dinner and went out to the beach. I missed you both today and I love you.

This is My Tired Face…

Ten hour days are stupid.

I mean, overtime is all well and good. I do enjoy money. But the rest of it is just yucky. My amazing, wonderful fiance cleaned the entire apartment for me, too. Because he knows how stressed I am.

I freaking love him.

I am so dead tired right now. After that crazy long day, I even went to the gym…so I am a little beyond beat.

Engagement photos tomorrow. I will post a sneak peak and wrap up WonderCon tomorrow.

Night!

Breakfast With A Bridesmaid

This morning was delicious. I got to have breakfast with one of my favorite ladies (and a bridesmaid for my upcoming Vegas Nuptials).

We love Norms. They really are so wonderful. I don’t know what I will do when we leave California and I have to learn to live without Norms.

It is the perfect way to start a day. Good food. Good friends. Nothing could be finer.

Too bad I have to go to work…

Still on a healthy kick, I tried to do my best when all I was really craving was biscuits and gravy.

I have not made it to the gym in two days though, so cheating was NOT an option.

I did okay. Egg white scramble with salsa, sausage, bacon, cottage cheese, wheat toast and some blue berries.

Delicious.

After breakfast I had to make a quick trip to Whimsic Alley (the Harry Potter Store In Los Angeles) to pick up some stuff.

But now I have to go to work for the rest of the day, though I may try to hit up the gym on the way home.

Happy Saturday everyone. And for those of you who get the day of, enjoy!
